1.1 INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF SIWES (STUDENT INDUSTRIAL WORK EXPERIENCE SCHEME)
SIWES was introduced by the Federal government of Nigeria in 1973. SIWES was design to expose students to the outside world wide supervision so as to apply then theoretical knowledge in the practical world. It expose students to machines and equipments, professional work methods and laboratory precaution.
The scheme comments students, the polytechnic and the industries. SIWES is coordinated by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the National universities / polytechnic / commission (NUC).
AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
The specific objectives of SIWES are to:
Provide an avenue for students in the Nigerian institutions to acquire industrial skills and experience in their course of study.
Make the transition of Nigerian students from the institutions to the real world easy by preparing students for the work situation they are like to meet after their graduation.
Expose students to equipments, work methods and techniques.
