This project is titled ‘Statistical Analysis of the Enrolment of Male and Female into NYSC from 2005 to 2014’, a case study of Kwara State NYSC Secretariat. The data collected is a secondary data and were collected from Kwara State NYSC Secretariat. This project is aimed to determine if the enrolment of male and female into NYSC is dependent of year and also to investigate if there is significant difference between the average number of male and female enrolment.
The statistical tools used are Chi-Square test of independence and Mann-Whitney U test. The analysis using Chi-Square test of independence confirmed that the enrolment of NYSC is dependent on year, while Mann-Whitney U test shows that there is no significance difference between the average number of male and female enrolment into NYSC.
With these results, it is therefore recommended, that government should provide a mechanism to ascertain the capacity and needs of each state before corps members are posted to them, that corps members should be accorded due cooperation and direction to carry out quality community development projects which will complement government’s efforts and corps members should resist the temptation to serve only in ‘choice’ places like the Federal Capital Territory, state capitals, NNPC and CBN that are almost always saturated to the detriment of other sectors.

1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
INTRODUCTION
The importance of applying statistical tools to any data is to analyse the data and draw a useful conclusion as well as given suggestions and recommendation on the basis of the result finding of such analysis.
This project is titled ‘Statistical Analysis of the Enrolment of Male and Female into NYSC from 2006 to 2015’, a case study of Kwara State NYSC Secretariat.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is an organization set by the Nigerian government to involve the country’s graduates in the development of the country. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for one year.
This is known as national service year, corps members are posted to cities far from their city of origin. They are expected to mix with people of other tribes, social and family backgrounds, to learn the culture of the indigenes in the place they are posted to. This action is aimed to bring about unity in the country and to help youth appreciate other ethnic groups.
There is an orientation period of approximately three weeks spent in a camp away from family and friends. After the orientation process corps members are posted to the areas of primary assignment. There is also a passing out ceremony at the end of the year.
The program has also helped in creating entry-level jobs for a lot of Nigerian youths. An NYSC forum dedicated to NYSC members was recently built to bridge the gap amongst members serving across Nigeria and also serves as an avenue for corps members to share job information and career resources as well as get loans from the national directorates of employment.
The NYSC programme is a programme that prepares youths to work after tertiary education in universities, polytechnics and their equivalent. This program is suffering a lot of setbacks such as posting a graduate of science programme to non-science oriented place of primary assignment and likewise 15 other disciplines.
Some corps members, due to lack of information, do not effectively perform their service. It is expected that this study would help to proffer solution(s) to these problems.
OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME
The objectives of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme are clearly spelt out in Decree No.51 of 16th June 1993 as follows
