INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
The English mini dictionary defines security as the safety of a state or organization while the advanced learners English dictionary defines security as that deliberate ideas or policies which are made by responsible body to ensure the safety of lives and property at a given situation as been warranted either by law of the land or a passionate desire to protect one self against obvious dangers such as fire, fall, explosion and cuts which reduces the possible risk of endangering the life of guest and the employees.
Safety on the other hand can be described as that state which enables man to feel secured against all forms of dangers that can rise from ones job or environment the advent of safety is traceable to the existence of man on earth, this is because it has always been man’s greatest concern about industries co-operation and host of other deliberate safety arrangement to see that the environment it occupies is safe.
Safety enforcement includes rules in school, sport and in industries where individuals take proper safety precautions on everything they do. Safety education make people to avoid hazard and it teaches them on how to tackle the most dangerous tasks or safety.
It is also essential that it protect the hospitality industry the guest, staff and all equipment present in the hospitality industry and to prevent robbery and lots of other dangers in the hospitality industry.
When hospitality industry has adequate security system, it would be very difficult for robbers to get into the industry. Also it must be assured that no one leaves the hotel without a valid authority. History has shown that the hotels are target to, saught vices such as robbery, murder.
Security and safety devices should be provided in every department of the hotel to make it safe to live in assault could be in the form of robbery setting ablaze or bombing in or around the industry etc. when the security is proper, employees will have the work carried out comfortably and the guest turnover will increase.
Security and safety in the hospitality industry means protection against unnecessary added expenses against carelessness and waste from employees and against failures of employers to pay staff wages. It is also a protection against accident or fire that could wipe out the entire hotel operations as well as against vandals and even armed robbers.
This work sort to proper effective use of security devices to the hospitality industry.
1.2 Statement of Research Problems
The problems affecting the smooth running of the hospitality industry such as robbery, murder, criminals and terrorism and lack of staff technical knowledge on the use of security devices, even the common use of extinguisher trained on how to use the fire extinguisher they will not be able to put off the fire and this will lead to damage in the industry.
1.3 Objective of the Study
The aim of these study is to discuss on how to help the hospitality industry to improve on the effective uses and maintenance of the security and safety devices in the hospitality industry. The objective of this project is also as follows:-
1. To identify different types of security and safety devices used in the hospitality industry.
2. To find out the importance of security and safety devices in relation to different department in the industry.
3. To know how standard security measures and safety precautions could be achieved in hospitality industry.
4. To discuss on the effective use and maintenance of security and safety devices in the hospitality industry.
5. To discuss on the effective use and maintenance of security & safety devices in the hospitality industry.
1.4 Significance of the Study
The result of this study will be useful to the hospitality industry to prevent hazard, crime and accident and to also enable the guest to be protected in the industry and to guide their luggage from getting missing and also to help provide ways of preventing hazard in the hospitality industry. It also be a significant Endeavour in promoting good work environment in the work place and motivations of its employees.
This study will be helpful to the hospitality industry in training and informing staffs in the areas of skills and maintenance with objectives and strategies.
Moreover, this study will be beneficial to the hospitality industry in strategic management and when they employ effective staffs particularly in different concepts related to the use of effective human resources.
1.5 Scope of the Study
The study of the effective uses and improved of security and safety devices in the hospitality industry has made it possible to get simple opinion which was obtained from the top and middle management of staff of different hospitality industry around Kaduna, other employees as well as the customers in order to arrive at a reasonable and acceptable data.
The scope of this study is centered upon the hotelier in respect of the effective uses and improved of security and safety devices in the hospitality industry.
