What Is IJMB: The Meaning

I’m so sure you must have heard of this word times without number. The full meaning of IJMB is Interim Joint Matriculation Board. IJMB is an A’level programme which can let you gain admission directly into 200level in Nigerian universities through direct entry.

IJMB Programme is a Nine months intensive programme which is moderated by ABU Zaria and has a lot of affiliated learning centres all over Nigeria. This means that, all IJMB centers in Nigeria is under the supervision of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, as it is the general overseer.

How Does IJMB Program Operate?

IJMB is an intensive program you run with any center of your choice in Nigeria. It is as simple as obtaining the form, attend their coaching and write exam. Fill the form and submit your O’level result, Birth Certificate, 13 passport photographs and State of Origin certificate.

What are the IJMB Courses?

Whatsoever course you want to study in the university, you will only be allowed to register three subjects in IJMB program. The combination of subjects to registered depends on the course you are interested on. Someone who want to study ACCOUNTING in the university, may be allowed to register subjects like Accounting, Mathematics and Economics in IJMB.

What Is IJMB Grade & How To Calculate Yours

IJMB does with point system. What you score in each course is converted to a point which is the determinant of your admission in your university of choice.

How To Calculate Your IJMB Points Is Below:

IJMB Grdaing point is as:

  • 70-100% (A) is 5points
  • 60-69% (B) is 4points
  • 50-59% (C) is 3points
  • 45-49% (D) is 2points
  • 40-44% (E) is 1point
  • 39% below (F) is 0 point

For instance, if you registered 3 subjects with grades such as Accounting 73%  which is (A), 65% in Economics which is (B) and 57% in Mathematics which is (C).

The calculation of your result would look similar to this:

  • Accounting: A = 5points
  • Economics: B = 4points
  • Mathematics: C = 3points

With the above calculation, the total points you scored is 12points plus IJMB bonus point which is 1points.

Therefore, the total point you scored is 13points.

13 points is a wonderful point which any school would easily offer admission. The overall point scorable in IJMB is 15points.

Nature of IJMB Exam

IJMB exam is conducted all over Nigeria at the same time. Prior to the exam, many centers across Nigeria would have concluded their lectures/coaching and must have covered up their syllabus..

IJMB exam is usually been conducted sometimes around February every year. February of the year used to  be the last month of the 9months duration for the program.

Ahmadu Bello university (ABU) is the moderator of IJMB, so they are always in charge of setting and marking the exam. The

Examination is conducted in different venues across the Nigeria. The exam centers are always been approved to various accredited centers where they are expected to take their candidates to for examination.
