Five Important Things To  Know Before Applying For 2018/2019 JAMB To Gain Admission In Nigeria

1) School/Courses Selection: This is one of the most important thing that comes to your mind whenever you are planning to apply for UTME. You keep wondering yourself for which course to study and in which school.Should I study Medicine or Pharmacy, Should I go to UNILAG or UNIMAID? These are few of questions you may need to provide reasonable answers to before you go ahead and apply.

This is where most applicants do get it wrong. They choose wrong courses and wrong schools. Do you know some schools are extremely applied for? University like UNILORIN do have more than one hundred thousand every year, while schools like Federal University OTUOKE do have less than three thousand applicants.

Its unfortunate that, instead of students to take advantage and apply for admission into less competitive schools, they still go after the bigger schools like UNILAG, BUK, ABU, UNILORIN, UNIBEN, UI and others. See how many students apply for each school in 2016/2017 UTME

2) Nigerian Universities & Their Catchment Area: One of the criteria for giving admission into Nigerian institution is catchment area. Every University, Polytechnic and Colleges of education has its catchment area.Students who are from catchment area to a particular university are in better chance of gaining admission than someone who is not. If you scored high in JAMB and you are from the school catchment area, you admission is sure compared to someone else. I always advise students to apply for schools in their catchment area.

Which State are you from? Whatever school you want to apply for, check your school catchment area now HERE.

3) Subject Combination For The Course You Want To Apply: One of the things that do stop applicants from gaining admission after scoring high in UTME is wrong selection of subject combination. You want to study medicine but you did not register biology in Jamb, you want to study engineering but you did not register physics in UTME, you applied for accounting but no economics in Jamb.

So also wrong combination in O’ Level result. Before you apply for any course and gain admission, you must meet up with both JAMB and O’level subject combination. You can check your course UTME and O’level subject combination HERE now

4) JAMB Cut Off Marks: Knowing the JAMB cut off mark for the school you want to apply is very important when applying for JAMB. Some schools accepts 180, while some schools don’t accept anything less than 220. If you don’t know the usual cut off mark for the school you want to apply, am sorry.

You may ended up scoring 200 and yet will not be qualified for admission while someone in another school with 180 is admitted. You can check the Cut off marks for all Nigerian Universities Here Now before you apply.

5) Nigerian Universities School Fees: After gaining admission, its unfortunate that some students will unable to pay the acceptance fee, talkless of the real school fee. Therefore, you need to know the school fee ranges of the the school you want to apply so that you won’t be disappointed at the end of the day.

Some universities are extremely cheap, while some are expensive for ordinary Nigerians. Since you know how buoyant your parents are, kindly check the school fees of all Nigerian Universities Here before you apply for admission this year.

I hope you will consider all these before you apply for your next UTME? I wish you all the best
