CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

            1.0     Background of the Study

Planned Parenthood is a respected leader in educating Nigerians about reproductive and sexual health. They deliver comprehensive sex education that empowers women, men, teens, and families to make informed choices and lead healthy lives. So on the Planned Parenthood Federation is a good educator of teen pregnancy, women men and youths about sex education. Many educators feel anxious or tentative in tackling the topics of sex, sexuality, and sexual health. They may feel overwhelmed about where to start or confused about what to teach and when to teach it. Planned Parenthood is here to help. As the nation’s oldest and most trusted provider of sexual health care, and with a national network of sexuality educators, Planned Parenthood Federation helps advocate for comprehensive, medically accurate sex education in your schools or programmes.            1.1     Motivation

What motivated the researchers to embark on this project are;

1. Ante -Natal examinations is poor.
2. The numbers of ward rooms are insufficient and some are not conducive for treatment of patient. And the organization by developing an application that will reduce the labor spent in keeping and managing records hence focus on rendering better family planning services to the society.

            1.2     Purpose of the Study

The purposes of the studies are;

1. To improve the quality of life for women and the society in general by increasing access to comprehensive reproductive health care and rights.
2. To increase access to sexual and reproductive health information and services.

iii. To check if family diseases is increasing or is reducing on yearly basis.

            1.3     Methodology

Research methodology is a careful study or investigation, especially in order to discover new fact or information. That is, the method used by the researcher to collect data or information. Therefore, the research methodology should used in this research work include the following; interview, the internet, textbooks and direct observation from peopleThese methods used provide reliable information of the required knowledge of this research and proper guidance. All methodologies are derived from a logical problem solving process that is sometimes called a system development life cycle. MS Access application was used to carry out data storage while Object Oriented Programming (Java) was used to carry out the programming and report generating.

            1.4 Scope of the Project

The scope of this work is limited to diagnosis and treatment of patients and clients based on the family History, Social History and medical examination, Obstetric and Gynecological History, Family Planning and Reproductive Health History, Ante-Natal Examination and management of records of patients.

            1.5 Expected Contribution to Knowledge

The project will lead to the development of an application in java to assist Planned Parenthood  organization in carrying out their tasks using an object oriented approach/methodology. And queries will be made from the database to check if family disease is increasing or is reducing yearly.
