What is OAU E-Learning?

In case you want to know what it means and how its operate. E-Learning is the delivery of education where the instructor and the learners are geographically separated- and technology, is used to bridge the instructional gap.|

The convergence of new information technology such as telecommunications, computers, satellite and Optic Fibre technology has facilitated harnessing the power of information technology to deliver distance education.

Thus, a variety of technologies (audio, video, data and print) are utilized for possible delivery systems and how they are delivered (e.g. satellite, microwave, Optic Fibre etc..).

The choice of the appropriate instructional technology depends on learner needs and course requirements.

About OAU eLearning Programme

The programme is administered online through a customized study tablet called the Vigitab. Students do not have to report to a physical classroom. Their classroom is on the Vigitab which would be given to each student upon resumption. You are only required to come to school to write your exams.

Quizzes and Assignments are taken and submitted online as well. Lecture materials come in the form of PowerPoint slides which instructors use to teach the classes. Lectures are captured on video and

accompanied by hand-outs in PDF format, and other additional materials and references as the instructor deems necessary.

The curricula for the various programmes are the same as for regular in-house programmes within the University; hence, the degrees, diplomas and certificates are the same as for full-time students. eLearning students also learn from the same lecturers who teach on-campus as they deliver lectures and course material online or pre-recorded, thus ensuring parity of curriculum contents and academic standards both on-campus and off-campus.

The total time to complete an online course is equivalent to that of an on-campus

programme and the same degree will be earned as the ones on-campus.

Admission Requirements

a. ‘O’ level Admission (Five Years)

Applicants for admission into the programme should possess:

Ordinary level credits in five (5) subjects – English language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two from : Government, Financial Accounting, Geography, Literature in English and Yoruba at not more than two sittings.

Candidates for the ‘O’ Level admission must have satisfied the National cut off mark of 180 for UTME.

b. Direct Entry to part 2 (Four Years)

Direct Entry applicants should possess:

  1. Five credit passes in the GCE (or equivalent)
  2. Minimum of two (2) of these must be at the Advanced Level.
  3. Ordinary level passes must include English Language, Economics and Mathematics
  4.  Advanced Level passes shall include Economics or Accounting NOTE: subjects are not counted at both levels of the examination. I.e. you cannot duplicate same set of subjects passed at Ordinary for A level passes (with the exception of Economics).

OR One of the following certifications:

  1. OND at Upper Credit Level in Accounting , or Banking and Finance
  2. ATS-ICAN final stage certificate
  3. Final stage of association of Nigerian Accountants (ANAN),
  4. Final stage of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS),
  5. Final stage of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

c. Direct Entry to Part III (Three years)

Five(5) credit passes in O/L including Mathematics, English and Economics AND any of the following certifications:

HND in Accounting or Business Administration

Final stage of ICAN certificate (ACA)

ACCA or CFA, ACIB, ANAN (Plus HND or BSc in any Discipline)HND in Banking and Finance.

Programme Objectives

All Bachelor’s Degree Nursing Students will take core courses which provide knowledge in basic Nursing Philosophy and Practice, Elective courses in Law, Sociology and Computer Science are taken, As part of the academic Bachelor’s Degree programme, each Candidate would be required to go on 6 weeks community and hospital postings in their 3rd and 4th Year respectively.

The Students would have designated Clinical Preceptors for this purpose, they will be expected to have a seminar whereby they will share the experience they had throughout the period.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be nurses registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (RN/ RPN/ RM/RPHN etc).

Applicants must possess ‘O’ Level credit in five (5) subjects obtained at NO MORE THAN TWO SITTINGS.

Ordinary level passes must include English Language , Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry

Candidates shall be invited for written and oral Interview.

The principal objective of the programme is to disseminate and expand knowledge in the principles and applications of Economics and thereby contribute rationally to the development of Economics and manpower requirements for national development.

The specific objectives of the programme include the following:

  1. To train students who are not just familiar with conventional economic theories, but who are also conscious of the limitations of the theories as they relate to economic development in a setting like Nigeria.
  2. To develop analytical skills in students of Economics for designing and formulating economic policies which are of social relevance.
